Poem of the Day: "In the Sanatorium" by Anya Silver

"In the Sanatorium" by Anya Silver is the Songs of Eretz Poem of the Day for April 8, 2014 and also the offering from Poets.org's Poem-A-Day for the same date.  A link to the poem, including the poet's notes, may be found here:  http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/23941.

Anya Silver (pictured) is a Professor of English at Mercer University.  She has had two collections of her poetry published.  Reference to this and additional biographical information may be found here:  http://mercercluster.com/faculty-spotlight-dr-anya-silver-poet/.

"In the Sanatorium" gave me chills.  The story is based on actual events, as the poet reveals in her notes.  While perhaps on the surface more story than poem, the emotional trauma of the two men--one victim, one perpetrator--evokes feelings and philosophical questions in a most poetic way.
